Enjoying retirement
In The Red Rose County
We've had rather a lot of weather and our usual walks along the Ribble and to Waddington have been transformed. Much horrible rain too however. In this quiet period of the year we took the opportunity to visit the excellent Scholars training restaurant again in Backburn. Four top-notch courses for £12 - not bad! We then went to see what we may have missed last time at Blackburn Museum. As you can see Blackburn was once thought 'the beeriest town in England'. A large part of the collection is from one significant donor, including icons....... medieval books..... Japanese prints...... and ancient coins. I found it fascinating that the donor -ropemaker R E Hart - had collected samples of coins from every Greek city state, of which there were hundreds each issuing their own coinage. The Victorian room this time didn't have a large group of schoolchildren doing a project - so we could see more at our leisure. And, because it was such a nice January day, the buildings of Blackburn centre really sparkled in the sunshine.
